The Maggots formed an Iron 13 and made it to Glenwood Springs Colorado this summer for the Annual Ski Town Classic Rugby Tournament. The Bozeman Cuttys & Butte Crabbies helped the Maggots fill out the side as we went 1-2 for the weekend losing to Jackson Hole and Vail whom ended up playing for the championship that weekend. THE SKITOWN TOURNEY IS IN MISSOULA IN 2014!!!!

Maggots go into MRU tourney play with the number 2 seed out of eight present teams in Helena. The first match against CDA showed a hat trick of tries from Saul, an accidental try from Peaches, and minutes from all 23 Maggots. The re-match against the Jesters was the most anticipated match of the weekend. The wind favored the Jesters penalty kicks with 6 quick points in the first minutes. The Maggots then put in 3 hard earned tries with the momentum from maintaining possession in the forwards and took a 21-6 lead with 25 minutes remaining. Momentum shifted and penalties against the Maggots brought the Jesters to within 1 point in the final 10 minutes. The Jesters scored on the last goal-line stand to go up with 4 minutes remaining. Cockpit tried in desperation to move the ball quickly for a final drive but was unsuccessful. Final score 21-27 Jesters. Jesters go on to win the Cup the next day 21-14 against Bozeman.

The Maggot B-side Cup match the next day was won by the Maggots Killer B’s over the Jesters. Smoothy, Bill the Bull, Peaches, and Richie provided the old boy punch to take over the match.

Fools Fest 2013- Maggots champions once again. Butte was the anticipated matchup for the day. The maggots maintained ball possession the vast majority of the match. The crabbie coalition kept it close till late in the match with their scores off of maggot mistakes. The match ended with our pack pushing the crabs into the touchline which solidified our pack’s dominance for the day. In the Gonzaga match everyone had opportunities for good touches on ball, even the rookie Hugh Thompson was able crash a few balls off several Zag penalties.

Inaugural 43^rd State St. Patty’s Day Tourney IN Boise, ID hosted by the 43^rd state– A late night arrival and hotel stay on the black bus brought the Maggots into Boise, ID last Saturday. More aggressive rucking and better ball handling than last week’s motley matchup against ISU brought the Maggots the 1^st win of the day 29-17. Tries were spread evenly amongst 5 maggots with Saul, Tupa, Will, Fed, and Lars finding glory. In the 2^nd match the Maggots stomped a Mountain Home team of Airmen turned rugby players with 8 tries scored for the final of 55-7. The highlight being South African Tanner Fox getting his Zulu try for the Maggots. A tough final match against the Rexburg Yetis, tries where exchanged back and forth until a late turnover steal in the backline was ran back for the Yetis to seal the match and stop the near last minute Maggot winning score.
